Crossing Water
Where to cross
Look for a slow-moving section to cross the river or stream.
Places where the bed is firm are preferable, and a gravel shoal is
also a good place to head for when crossing.
Using ropes to stay safe
Even if you are crossing alone, you can still tie a rope to
something on your side of the shore so that if you fall, you are at
least held back from flowing down the river. With two or people, a
more elaborate rope system can be used, greatly lessening the
danger.
Building a bridge
You can lower logs across a river or stream to establish a safe
crossing point. Use pegs at either end to secure the logs and prevent
them from rolling apart.
